Schutt, Christine
Biography
Christine Schutt taught English and Creative Writing at Nightingale from 1984 until her retirement in June 2014. She also served as a faculty advisor to the Upper School's literary magazine, Philomel. Ms. Schutt also taught writing at several colleges and universities. She received her BA and MA from the University of Wisconsin–Madison and her MFA from Columbia University.
In addition to teaching, Ms. Schutt is a published writer of novels and short stories and has received several writing awards. Among them, her novel Florida was a finalist for the 2004 National Book Award for Fiction and her second novel, All Souls, was a finalist for the 2009 Pulitzer Prize in fiction.
In recognition and celebration of Ms. Schutt's enormous contributions to the Nightingale community, an endowed fund was established to support the Christine Schutt Creative Writing Program, to bring visiting writers to Nightingale to work directly with students.
