Biography
Miss Marianna von Heereman taught Latin and served as faculty advicor for Canterbury House at Nightingale from fall 1958 until 1979.
She was born in Germany and received her Certificate for High School Teaching from the University of Breslau, after which she taught for six years in Germany.
She left Germany for Basel, Switzerland prior to World War II, then came to the United States.
Prior to Nightingale, Miss von Heereman taught Kindergarten at a Quaker school in Haverford, PA, Latin in Cleveland, IL, and was an Assistant in Instruction for German at the Yale Music School.
Miss von Heereman died in 1990.

In 1984, based on a determination that Nightingale's archives were inadequate in revealing the school's history, Head of School Joan McMenamin and the Alumnae Association initiated an oral history project.
