Biography
Before teaching Class I at Nightingale, Mrs. Allen, previously known as Mary Stanton (nee Sohovic), worked in theater and opera, including several Broadway shows. She started teaching when her own three children entered school and came to Nightingale in fall 1977, where she taught (mostly) Lower School, retiring in 1994. Notably, Mrs. Allen created the school's schedule during 1989-1991 period of schoolhouse construction, when students attended classes in various locations across the Upper East Side.
Mrs. Allen earned a B.A. in music from New England Conservatory of Music in Boston and a Master's degree in education from Fordham University. She was born November 1, 1928 in Bridgeport, CT and died on April 28, 2017 in New York. Her husband was John M. Allen.
