Biography

Alewa Cooper joined Nightingale in fall 2000 and departed in 2012. During those years, she was mainly a Class II homeroom teacher. Ms. Cooper also worked with C.A.F.E. Club, the faculty-staff inclusivity committee, Parents of Daughters of Color, and served one year as the Lower School Director of Diversity, Community Life. In addition, she assisted with choreography for school dramatic productions.

Ms. Cooper attended Packer Collegiate Institute in Brooklyn, earned a BA from Wesleyan University in 1998 and MS in Education from Bank Street College of Education in Dec. 2000. She previoulsy taught at the Town School and taught dance at various institutions.

Following Nightingale, Ms. Cooper was Head of Lower School at Greens Farms Academy in Westport, CT, and in 2020, was appointed Head of School at Foote School in New Haven, CT.
