Gordan, Catherine (Kitty) M.S.

 Person

Biography

Catherine "Kitty" Gordan was hired in 1969 to teach Middle and Upper School history. She became head of the department in 1973, and Assistant Head of the school in 1975. Her role as Assistant Head focused on academic affairs. She retired in spring 2013.

Ms. Gordan was born in France, coming to the U.S. at age ten for her father's work. She attended Brearley and Radcliffe, married her husband John Gordan, received an EdM from Tufts University, and had two children. At Nightingale, she chaired many Long-Range Planning Committees and developed the curriculum. She also developed study abroad programs and a faculty exchange with St. Paul's Girls School in London.

The Catherine M.S. Gordan Nightingale Mind Lecture was established in 2013 to honor Ms. Gordan's extensive contributions to the school and celebrates intellectual life at Nightingale. This annual lecture series focuses on the scholarly pursuits and interests of Nightingale's faculty, both inside and outside the classroom.
