Biography

After receiving her BA from Swarthmore and her MA from Teachers College, in 1997, Claire Lecomte du Nouy came to Nightingale as a French language teacher until 2002. She returned to Nightingale in 2006 as both a French teacher and director of student activities. Over the years, Claire held various roles including Class XII homeroom teacher, college advisor, Upper School dean of students, head of Middle School, and associate head of school. She passed away on January 21, 2024 from cancer. The Claire du Nouy Fund for Joy in Middle School Leadership was established to preserve the philosophical approach to learning that Claire espoused her entire career - that joy is inextricable from the most effective teaching - and help Nightingale acquire, nurture, and retain outstanding Middle School leadership who are able to continue her legacy.
