Scope and Contents

Heads of School records consist of records created by or under the purview of the various heads of Nightingale-Bamford School from its founding to present, as well as photographs, clippings, and biographical records with the head of school as main subject. Records include correspondence and announcements, memoranda, reports from the heads of school to the Board of Trustees, speeches given by heads of school, and related records created and received in the course of business as well as biographical records regarding the head's family, lineage, background, and affiliations.

Photographs include portraits as well as photographs of heads of school at various school events and around the schoolhouse and may include faculty members, students, and/or special guests. Photographs of heads of school can also be found in other record groups, especially Academics Records and Institutional Advancement Records.

Since 1975, Nightingale has been accredited by the New York State Association of Independent Schools (NYSAIS). Accreditation reports and other related records are included in the respective head of school's records. NYSAIS reports are a comprehensive summary of the school and its activities, and is a good source for curriculum history, school priorities, and overall goals and direction of the school.
