Transcript, interview with Heidi Kasevich, 2018 Oct 19

Heidi Kasevich taught history at Nightingale and served as department head from 2005 to 2015. In her interview conducted by Kitty Gordan, she gives her thoughts on Dorothy Hutcheson's leadership, the role of department chairs, and the relationship between the students and faculty. She moves on to discuss her intentions in leading the history department at that time, including the role of technology in teaching history, the creation of women's history classes, the influence of the world religions course on her work with the global citizenship task force, and how she approached restructuring the Class X world history course. Ms. Kasevich then discusses the development of a leadership curriculum at Nightingale (Open Doors), including the internship program, assemblies and speakers, mentorship, and Big Question seminars. She also touches on how the history journal, Time Regained, gave students an outlet for a style of writing different from the literary journal, Philomel. At the end of the interview, Ms. Kasevich briefly talks about her thoughts on being a Nightingale parent to her daughter, Emily Ferguson '11.
