Biographical / Historical
Edna Hill was born in England in _____ to Florence Hill and ____.
She studied at Gypsy Hill Training College in London, graduating with honors and a British Board of Education certificate in 1925.
Miss Hill worked in History at the University of London and studied an additional year in various European schools. She also received a B.S. degree from Columbia University.
After emigrating to the United States, Miss Hill taught at Dalton and at Ethical Culture Schools, as well as a summer session at Ohio State University.
Miss Hill entered Nightingale in 1935 as head of the lower school, and became director of the middle school in 1937. When Miss Nightingale retired in 1939, Miss Hill was promoted to Assistant Head. She served as the third Head of School from 1947 to 1958.
In Dec. 1954, Edna Hill married Mr. Basil Robillard.
Mrs. Robillard passed away in 1958 in Cold Spring Harbor, New York after a year long illess.
A memorial service was held at Nightingale-Bamford School for Mrs. Robillard on October 26, 1958.
The Edna Hill Robillard Scholarship Prize was established by the Class of 1957 in her honor, which "shall be awarded to a member of the incoming senior class who, in the opinion of the faculty, has given evidence of intellectual growth, serious purpose, and the capacity to recognize and foster excellence."
