Scope and Contents

Chirps was a literary publication published by Nightingale students, founded and first edited by student Henrietta Skinner '31. A selection of writing contributions and/or winning stories and poems submitted to Chirps were published in a freestanding first issue in March 1931 and in the school's annual yearbook. Thereafter, it appears that Chirps was only published in the yearbook, then completely disappeared in 1936. The 1937 yearbook claims Chirps was "revived" that year and a freestanding issue was again published in March. The 1938 yearbook states that Chirps would no longer be published in the yearbook, but separately published three times per year. Despite this, yearbooks through 1942 continued to reprint some Chirps material. The 1941 yearbook indicates quarterly issues of Chirps were not published that year, and therefore printed a selection of contributions in the yearbook. After 1942, student poetry and stories continued to be printed in the yearbook, although not in connection with Chirps, which seems to have ceased publication around that time. This series includes the 1931 issue, as well as issues dated between 1937 and 1940.

See yearbooks from 1931 to 1942 for Chirps material published in the school's yearbooks.
