Scope and Contents

One of two 16 mm film reels that were prepared for viewing at the Nightingale-Bamford School's fiftieth anniversary celebration. These two reels were created by splicing together four smaller reels, entitled "Old Movies of NB - Edited," "Commencement Day Films 1940s-56," "Lake Placid, winter 1965-66," and "Lake Placid, ca. 1967-68." Includes black and white as well as color footage. Footage includes students and faculty preparing for the Fair, attending the Fair, Upper School students working in the science lab for Science Club, Lower School students playing games on the roof playground, Upper School students singing, young boys and girls building with large blocks on the roof, lunch service, students arriving to school by foot and bus, students and teachers in classes, playing volleyball on the roof, relay races and exercises, young students in the classroom and in music class, students socializing on the roof, students departing school, faculty working, Miss Bamford and student playing ping pong, Christmas pageant rehearsal, more roof games, moving large frames or artwork onto a vehicle, socializing on Commencement day.

Conditions Governing Use

Film physical condition was reviewed by Albert M. Handy in March 1982 and found to be curled, brittle, scratched, and badly shrunken. It is highly recommended that the surrogate video discs be used instead of the film.

See 1938 Yearbook, p. 31 regarding 1938 film footage: "...to see the movies made by Miss Stone and Miss Allen. These pictures of the familiar persons, places, and activities around the school were excellently taken, even bursting out in color in the last reel. They all were met with high acclaim; it was the enthusiastic opinion of the whole audience that the films should be kept in the school archives."
