Out of Uniform, 1989 May
Scope and Contents
Out of Uniform is a student publication that features literature and (since c. 2010-2011) art from the Middle School. Students review submissions from their peers—from concrete poetry and prose to sculpture and photography—and vote by committee on which to feature in their yearly publication. The Columbia Scholastic Press Association has bestowed the Silver Crown award on the 2009, 2012, 2016, 2017, and 2018 issues, and the Gold Crown award on the 2011 issue. Out of Uniform continues to be published annually in the spring.
The June 1987 issue is believed to be the first issue of Out of Uniform. While the club section of the 1987 yearbook includes a photograph of Middle School students participating in "Middle School Poetry," the first yearbook to include Out of Uniform in the clubs section is 1989.
