Scope and Contents School Magazine is a handwritten student literary magazine that was created in 1919 by Nightingale classes. Contents include a variety of writing, from true stories about travels to creative writing to academic writing reports to school "gossip" (mostly factual news!). Some issues include student artwork. The first issue of this monthly Middle School newspaper in March 1940 explains that, "although it has a small beginning, we expect great things of it in the future." Therefore, the newspaper was monikered The Acorn. Not strictly a newspaper, The Acorn includes poems and creative writing in addition to school happenings.

The Ivy and the Acorn was a literary magazine born from the Middle School newspaper (which also included creative writing), The Acorn, giving opportunity for individual expression to students in Kindergarten through Class XII. A student editor and Board managed its publication from 1943 until 1954.
