Biography

Kate Elizabeth Ball graduated from Greenwich Academy in Connecticut in 1935, Vassar College in 1939, and New York University's Graduate School of Arts and Sciences, where she received her master's degree. She taught at Garrison Forest School and held several war-related jobs in the early 1940s before coming to Nightingale. Miss Ball taught history/geography and English to Middle and Upper School students, advised Harvey House, and taught music classes and conducted the Glee Club.

Miss Ball married Charles Stevenson Davis and became known as Mrs. Davis in September 1948. She had one son, Charles Jr. Mrs. Davis retired from Nightingale in spring 1967 and lived in Orleans, Massachusetts, where she died in September 2002.
