Biography
Peter Borie was a member of Nightingale's Board of Trustees for 17 years, from 1960 to 1977, and served in roles including treasurer, Vice President, and Executive Committee member. Mr. Borie was an attorney at the law firm Cravath, Swaine and Moore until 1951, when he joined the legal department of Pepsi Cola. He later served as vice president there before retiring in 1971. Mr. Borie served as legal counsel to the Nightingale-Bamford School at various times.
Mr. Borie married his first wife, Bettina Rhett Borie '32 (a/k/a Charlotte Elizabeth Borie) in 1941. Bettina was Miss Nightingale's niece, and their two children, Edith Borie '60 and Ellen Douglas Borie (also known as Lendy) '62, graduated from Nightingale-Bamford School. Bettina passed away in 1960 and Lendy in 1972. In 1969, the school's science laboratories were named the Bettina Rhett Borie Laboratories in honor of the Borie family.
Mr. Borie's second wife, Mary Stacy Lakin Hoffman Borie, passed away in 1994.
Peter Borie died in Philadelphia in 2002.
