Hamilton, Sarah Elizabeth "Betty", Miss, 1921 - 1998
Biography
Born February 17, 1921, in West Chester, Pennsylvania, Sarah Elizabeth "Betty" Hamilton was educated at the Baldwin School and the Bouve-Boston School of Physical Education. She began teaching at Baldwin, followed by the Ethel Walker School in Connecticut and the Katherine Bronson School in California. Miss Hamilton came to Nightingale around 1948 to teach physical education. She was head of the athletic department and later appointed by Headmistress Joan McMenamin as Assistant Head for Administration (non-curricular tasks). Miss Hamilton retired in 1986 to New Haven, Connecticut, where she died on August 21, 1998. Nightingale's Sarah E. Hamilton Student Center is named in her honor.
