When her daughter left Spence for boarding school, Betty Alexander was hired at Nightingale with a glowing recommendation from Spence's headmistress, who was impressed with her work as head of their Parents Association. In 1970, Betty became a Nightingale Trustee, and five years later, was elected President of the Board, an obligation that she held until 1980.
