Commencement ceremony script, 1959
Scope and Contents
Commencement Records include commencement ceremony invitations, programs, scripts, and transcriptions of speeches given. Each year, a commencement guest speaker is invited to deliver words of wisdom and inspiration to the graduating senior students; correspondence with prospective guest speakers and the speaker's biographical information and or curriculum vitae may be in this record series. Also of note are sheet music and lyrics for a Nightingale commencement song. Invitations include the date of commencement, with later invitations also including the location and enclosing admission ticket(s). Programs typically are dated and set forth the order of events for the commencement ceremony, songs to be sung (which may include lyrics and/or music notation), names of speakers, and names of the graduates. Ceremony scripts are used by the head of school for speaking cues to conduct the commencement ceremony. Scripts may include names of award recipients, the following year's Council and student leadership representatives, names of speakers, and other ceremony details.

Materials Specific Details
This script is more of an outline than other commencement ceremony scripts and includes annotations. It mentions Dr. Read as commencement speaker, includes a Prize list for 1958-59 (academic awards), recipient of the Senior Athletic Cup (the De Forest-Choate Cup) and Middle School Athletic Cup, a list of school officers for 1959-60, and mentions that the Edna Hill Robillard Scholarship is awarded for the first time for one-half tuition, but does not note the recipient.
