Biography

Miss Lucy Guy Burwell served as secretary to Miss Nightingale and Miss Bamford from approximately 1922 until 1940. In the early 1930s, she lived across the street from the Schoolhouse with Nightingale's boarding students.

Miss Burwell was the daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. Edward Bouldin Burwell of Upperville, Virginia. In 1935, she married Isham Keith in Virginia and continued to reside in New York. She retired to Upperville, where she died in 1989 at the age of 99.
