Scope and Contents
Terri-Anne Davis '95, now known as Terri Davis-Merchant, entered Nightingale in Class VII in 1989 through the Prep for Prep program and graduated in 1995. She discusses the Prep for Prep program and her school years at Nightingale, including as head of the Cultural Awareness for Everyone (C.A.F.E.) club in its early years, participation in dance, track, and Model UN, and her favorite teachers and subjects. Ms. Davis-Merchant also discusses her experience as a student under Mrs. McMenamin compared to Ms. Hutcheson as heads of school and any small changes that entailed, such as Prayers becoming Morning Meeting, and Nightingale traditions. Also mentioned are Ms. Davis-Merchant's mother's interactions with Nightingale, her class's reputation and the 1990s in New York City, domestic and world events during her high school years, her thoughts on Nightingale's appointment of Paul Burke as the newest head of school, and how she came to be on the Alumni Board after hosting an event for Prep for Prep/Nightingale alumnae. Finally, she talks about balancing parenting and a career, her intentions for her own daughter's education, and being a woman of color in law, and her thoughts on discussing difficult subjects at school.
