Biography
Born near Chicago in December 1876, Ira Lawrence Hill moved to New York arond 1905 and became a portrait photographer to high society, first partnered with Louis de Silva and later on his own. Published in magazines such as Town and Country and Vanity Fair, Hill photographed fashion, society events and weddings, and theatrical publicity portraits as well as celebrities and the wealthy. His first studio was located at 403 Fifth Avenue in Manhattan, which moved to 677 Fifth Avenue in the 1920s. Hill was married four times and had one son, Robert L. Hill. He died in January 1947.
