Scope and Contents From the Series: Nightingale-Bamford School had a small boarding department, or "resident department," from 1929 until 1937. A handful of girls age 14 and older boarded during the week at 23 East 92nd Street, across the street from the schoolhouse, and typically returned home on weekends. Boarding students were typically from families living too far to commute to the schoolhouse daily but wishing for their daughters to take advantage of New York's cultural opportunities as part of their education.
